RM 243, 25¢ VA 1st Fed. Strong strike of the 25¢ Virginia First Federal Issue embossed revenue stamped paper. # RM 243 on laid, watermarked paper. There follows provision for payments to adjust for any difference in value between the woman and the debt. The document is dated 11 Nov. Manuscript, size 8 in. On rag content paper; age toned, tiny holes at intersection of folds, fine condition. The stamp is not affected by folds, not overwritten, but has a tiny pin hole. The pin hole is common in the. Embossed stamps but I do not know its function. Also the stamp is located at the middle left of the document. However, the document is written on the reverse of what started out to be a promissory note that was never completed or used. It is missing an amount and a signature. The promissory note was written on what would usually be the face of the document, the side where the embossed stamp appears normal. Because of this the embossed stamp appears reversed on the single bond side referring to the woman. The document is dated 1 Jan. On rag content paper; age toned, very fine condition. The stamp is mildly affected by folds, overwritten, but has a tiny pin hole. Also the stamp is located at the upper right corner of the document. For detailed descriptions of the die types, die, paper, and usage varieties, and quantities reported see the catalogs authored by W. Combs in the 1990’s.
