This is an original envelope that once contained a now-gone letter that was addressed (it is the real deal–NOT a reproduction) and was then mailed through the United States Postal Service. You are purchasing only the postal portion; I do not have the letter. ONE of the reasons it is collectible is because of the fact that the local postmaster applied postal markings considered appropriate for the letter’s journey. In addition to being collectable becasue of the content of the letter, or the writer, or the addressee, it is a collectable item of postal history because of the rates, markings and usage. 1841 preprinted “Office of Superintendent of Common Schools, Albany” form dated “Nov 9 1841″ placing in the Deaf & Dumb institution by assignment to that School for “Sarah Ann Holstock, caughter of William Holstock” in response to a certificate submitted signed by “Danie Felthausen, one of the overseers of the poor of the City of Schenectady”. ” with a red circular datestamp and a red “PAID” and a manuscript “6.
