America's First Stamps 1847 First General Issue Washington & Franklin
I used to collect stamps and coins when I was younger (50+ years ago) and recently discovered these. 5¢ Franklin – 4 red-brown different shades. 10¢ Washington – 2 gray. 5¢ Franklin – on envelope. These stamps were put in use in July 1847. They superseded Postmaster and other stamps which became illegal. The stamps were printed by. Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson of New York. I had them looked at by a local coin and stamp expert and he said they were genuine.
